I was born in Ukraine and moved to the United States with my mom when I was 13 years old. I have been fascinated by interior design ever since I can remember. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Interior Design from the University of Montevallo, I focused the beginning of my career managing concept development and design of high-end restaurants and coffee shops including The Wine Loft, Le Crepe Nanou, Huey’s Diner, Press-It Bistro, Rasputin Vodka Bar, and Brew Public. I started Olinova Design in 2009 and focused mainly on high-end custom residential designs. Currently, I work with clients on new construction, remodel projects, and model homes.

Go to color for painting a kitchen?
If we are talking about cabinets, I love the combination of some cabinets being a natural blonde stain with other cabinets being a soft paint color like Sherwin Williams 9130 Evergreen Fog. However, white cabinets are always a classic.
Favorite part about interior designing?
Meeting new people and creating a home around their daily needs and wants that will be timeless for many years to come. I love that my clients let me be creative with their designs. I thoroughly enjoy discovering new materials and showing them to my clients, it's like a candy stone.

How would you describe your style?
People say I have a specific style, not sure if I am the best person to describe it, but I would say overall it is elegant and simple, with a touch of organic elements. I enjoy new trends, but like to intertwine trendy looks with classic elements to create a timeless look.

Favorite trend(s) of the year?
Right now I am loving all the mid-century modern looks in tile, finishes, furniture and lighting, I would say this has been my most favorite design style. The brass plumbing fixtures, vintage mid-century lighting, Zellige tile and variety of wallpaper designs are my most favorite elements at the moment for this trend.

What inspires you at the moment?
Discovery of new looks, new materials, new designs. So you can say the surprise element of discovering something new every time I design.
What kind of work do you usually prefer?
I enjoy selecting finishes for my clients such as flooring, shower tile, countertops, lighting, plumbing, cabinets, and paint colors. I also enjoy designing model homes and selecting finishes along with furniture.

What do you consider before designing?
I like to learn what my clients' daily lives are like and how they need their new home to function for them. Then I learn from them what their overall style is and what their budget is. Budget is probably the most important part as I can design a beautiful home on any budget, but it is best to know the budget from the beginning of the design process.
